MI A3 DESIGN AND CONNECTIVITY
MI A3 Design and Connectivity

MI A3 DESIGN AND CONNECTIVITY

  • The MI A3 follows a unique design making it look different from a traditional Xiaomi device. The back is shiny and displays an 'extended S' design. The design of the phone is quite impressive and looks similar to MICC9 but with different colors. Gorilla Glass 5 protection is present on either side of the device. Not only in terms of design but the MI A3 also comes in color variants with unique name viz  Kind of Grey, Not just blue and More than white!
  • The right side of the phone contains volume rocker and power on-off buttons. The top side of the phone contains noise cancellation mic, a 3.5 mm jack and the IR blaster. The bottom side contains speaker grills, microphone, and the USB Type-C port.  The left contains only the sim card tray. The sim tray has a hybrid sim slot which is far better than MI A2 that showed neither the hybrid nor the dual sim card tray. The back consists of just rear cameras as the device follows the new trend of the in-display fingerprint sensor.
  • MI A3 comes with a 6.08" AMOLED HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 accompanied by a beautiful waterdrop notch and a white notification LED light which is a good feature. The screen feels perfect in hand even for one-hand tasking which is a rare feature.
  • Also, the MI A3 connects Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Infrared, Dual 4G, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS and has all necessary sensors.

MI A3 CAMERAS AND SOFTWARE

MI A3 CAMERAS AND SOFTWARE

  • Xiaomi MI series is known for its excellent camera performance and the MI A3 makes no difference. The device comes with an AI Triple Camera which includes a 16-MP(f/1.8) rear camera without any OIS accompanied by an 8-MP(f/2.2) ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensor with a flash. The front camera is a 32MP(f/2.0) selfie camera.
  • The camera includes all required necessary features that will satisfy a mobile photographer. The device captured good pictures during our testing. The Autofocus feature is also present. Image stabilization and edge detection work averagely well. However, the wide-angle feature does not work that well and the device only provides a 118% FOV while devices in this range like the Vivo S1 and the Vivo Z1 Pro provides 120-125% FOV. The night performance of this phone is also appreciable and the noise was mostly under control. The front selfie camera captured excellent selfies with superb skin tones. MI A3 is also capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps.
  • The MI A3 runs on Android One which is a near-stock version of Android. However, some modifications are visible in this like Face Unlock and some pre-installed apps which are not the feature of Android One. The good thing is that we did not found any ads running in this device which is a smart move by Xiaomi.

MI A3 PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE

MI A3 PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE

  • The MI A3 is the first device in the world to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 655 processor which is between SD 632 and SD 670. The device works well for moderate usage but we experienced a bit of lag and screen hang while performing heavy multitasking on the device.
  • The gaming performance of the MI A3 is quite decent. High-end games such as PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends worked on Medium graphics settings. The experience of playing them was fine but frame drops and lags were experienced at high settings.
  • With light to moderate usage, we concluded that the 4030 mAh battery can easily last a day. Heavy usage drains the battery fastly but the MI A3 supports 18W fast charging. As far as we tested the device charged up pretty quickly and can easily meet the expectations of buyers.

WHO SHOULD BUY MI A3?

The MI A3 is a decent device for any usual Indian user. If the look of the device is your first priority, then this device is a must-buy for you. The phone is light and gives a classy look to its owner. The 'Extended S' design gives a premium look to the device. Also, the camera performance of the device is quite good and is a must-buy device for you at this range if you are comfortable with HD+ display or using an older version in MI series.

WHO SHOULD NOT BUY MI A3?

Obviously, the MI A3 is a better device than MI A2 but still, it is not a gaming-centric device. You have better options in this range such as the Vivo Z1 Pro or the Vivo S1 that can provide you with a better gaming experience and performance than this device. Hence, it may not satisfy mobile gamers.
